I am going through a divorce right now and, in spite of having successfully gotten through the trauma of the death of both my parents to cancer in the 1990s and the death of my younger brother in a motorcar accident in 2000, nothing prepared me for the enormity of upheaval that divorce is. The break-up comes after 18 years with my husband; the fact that I’m the one who initiated it and that my divorce isn’t acrimonious or nasty doesn’t make it any easier.
Adele’s book is a godsend and an absolute must for anyone navigating the range of emotions that accompany a trauma of this nature. And if you’re a self-employed businesswoman, like I am, or a high-powered corporate businesswoman or a mother raising precious people, then this book is a must.
After reading it and completing Adele’s 21-day-programme I experienced a state change in both my experience of myself, and my ability to perform at work. I went from wandering aimlessly through my day to being focussed, clear and confident as I build my business – given the financial vulnerability that comes with divorce this is critical. I continue to practise healing ethically through the full experience and expression of my emotions and am a calmer, more compassionate and gentler woman as a result. I am no longer terrified that the statistics (of meeting another man in Cape Town) are against me and I’ll never experience love and happiness again. Instead I’m loving learning about what it takes to have a successful relationship.
I appreciated the incredible structure of the process and how Adele has thought of everything; from food, to pampering, to supplements, to fun and although it took courage and determination to do all the exercises and healing work, the end result was exponentially greater than I could have imagined.
I’m sure all of us know a woman who either is divorced and stuck (and you’ll know if they don’t look fabulous and in their power) or is going through a divorce. Be the best friend you can be and get them this book – stand by them healing powerfully from their divorce.
